About Us

Background & History of The Centre

The Barkingside Centre has been successfully providing tutorial assistance to children who need support with their schoolwork since September 1995. The Centre has been well established for over 11 years with a reputation in the local area for 'providing excellent tutoring'. The centre is conveniently placed in central Barkingside on the main High Street and is very easy to locate.

The Barkingside Centre was opened in September 1995 by Ambika and Kam Pindoria and was one of the first centres to be opened in the UK. They both hold over 11 years precious knowledge and experience of teaching using the Kip McGrath methodology, programs and materials. The very successful teaching couple have run 2 Kip McGrath sites with a pupil base of over 200. They now own 2 centres; namely Barkingside and South Woodford and Kam Pindoria Directs the Eastern England and London UK Regional Master Franchises.

What We Do

The first Kip McGrath Education Centres were established more than 25 years ago, now there are over 400 Centres world-wide. The centre caters for all abilities and not just those who are having difficulties. The Barkingside centre has a history of producing superb examination results particularly at GCSE level. In 2003, 100% of the students passed at GCSE level of which 90% were A-C passes.

All Kip McGrath Centres use a tutorial system based on a series of computer and cassette based programmes, integrated with structured worksheets and textbooks. The programmes have been successful in helping children overcome problems in spelling, reading, writing and Mathematics. The pupils follow individualised learning programmes. Some of the work is aimed at a specific exam, for example; 11+, Private School Entrance exams, Scholarship, SATs or GCSE.

The Centre caters for both primary and secondary level children with a spectrum of abilities. Some of our students are high attainers and we stretch them even further with their schoolwork. Some simply need support, confidence and enthusiasm to learn.

All Kip McGrath material is graded so that progress is constant and accelerated. Children catch up as quickly as possible. The programmes are designed to give the children the motivation to succeed with challenging but attainable goals.

  • They work individually at their own pace and failure is eliminated.
  •  As they achieve and succeed they find it both rewarding and fun.

At the Barkingside centre we specialise in:

  • Helping children having difficulty with the primary to secondary transition.
  • Helping children who need support with Science at Secondary level.
  • Helping children who have missed a lot of school due to illness.
  • Helping children who need extra support with the Literacy and Numeracy framework.
  • Helping children who simply feel 'lost amongst the crowd'!

Each child is given a free assessment prior to starting, parents concerns are established and the results of the assessments are discussed confidentially.

Tutorials are conducted in the Centre at 57a High Street, Barkingside after school hours.
Each Kip McGrath tutoring session is 80 minutes (1 hour: 20 min)

Fees are paid on a week by week basis or by an agreed method. No more than five students are assigned to each tutor at any time. Students are provided with a computer to assist with their learning.
