About Us
The Director of the Carlisle Centre is Ian Thompson, a fully qualified teacher with a Master's Degree in Education and many years' experience of teaching children of primary and secondary school age in both England and Scotland. Ian, a former Assistant Head Teacher, is an Associate Tutor for the University of the West of Scotland where he trains student teachers.
The Carlisle Centre is conveniently situated near to the main shopping area of the city.
There is ample parking space nearby, and 'drop off' parking right outside the entrance, making it a safe, convenient place for parents and their children.
What We Do
The Kip McGrath Education Centre in Carlisle provides after-school/Saturday tuition in English and Maths for children of all abilities at Primary and Secondary levels, including those who need help with GCSE and entrance exams to Independent schools.

Inside the centre
An initial FREE assessment is offered to the child, the results of which are discussed fully with the parents. Following this, an individual programme of work tailored to the child's needs is planned and a weekly session of 80 minutes tuition within a small group of no more than four children, is then arranged. During the 80 minute session, varied and rewarding activities alternate between computer programmes and written work. Children benefit greatly from the programmes which are highly motivating and the individual attention from the tutors. The relaxed but focussed atmosphere at the centre enables them to gain greater confidence in their own abilities to succeed in areas where they previously had low expectations and this in turn raises their self-esteem.
