About Us
The Dunstable Centre, which opened in September 2004, is conveniently situated close to Dunstable town centre and within walking distance of several local schools.
The centre is on the first floor of a small office development in a quiet courtyard and offers pleasant, airy and relaxed surroundings in which to learn. In the reception area there is a working space for students who arrive early to begin their school homework.
The centre is run by Janet and Roger Dear. Janet is a well-qualified teacher with over fifteen years of experience teaching in the Dunstable area and has taught pupils from nursery age to A level. Before opening the centre, she was Head of English at a local middle school. Roger is an experienced teacher who has taught for over thirty-three years in Worcestershire and Hertfordshire. Prior to joining the centre in 2006, he was Head of Lower School at a popular and successful St Albans secondary school.
What We Do
We provide professional tuition in English and Maths for students of all abilities aged 6 to 16. We cater for children who are having difficulty with schoolwork and for those who would like to be extended or who are preparing for specific examinations such as SATs or GCSEs. Above all, we aim to make children feel motivated and confident in their own abilities to succeed.
Each student follows a personal programme of learning based on the results of an initial free assessment. This programme, which utilises computer programmes, audio tapes, work books, structured worksheets and individual attention from the tutor, is continually monitored and adapted to suit the pupil. Students receive one-to-one teaching and work at their own pace within a small group (maximum 5).
The tuition sessions of eighty minutes take place after school and on Saturday mornings. Pupils complete a range of activities at each visit and are given a homework task each week.
