About Us

The Centre Director

Jeanette Moss MA, MEd, PGCE, AdvDipEd (Open), Cert SpLD, PGCPSE (Open)

Jeanette has spent many years teaching in mainstream, independent and special schools. She has taught children from year 1 to year 11. As well as being a class and subject teacher, she is qualified and experienced in teaching children with specific learning difficulties like dyslexia. She spent several years studying why some children struggle to learn in busy classrooms and gave up her job as Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator to open the Kip McGrath Education Centre. "At the Centre I focus on what each student needs to learn and help with issues like concentration, confidence and self esteem. With children working to their own individual programmes, at their own pace, they enjoy learning and quickly make progress. I love watching the children develop and listening to the positive and enthusiastic feedback from parents. It really makes my day!"

The Teachers

Like Jeanette, the teachers at the Centre are all qualified, experienced and skilled at matching the support to the child. GCSE revision groups work with subject specialist teachers who are familiar with the syllabus. All teachers have undergone criminal record checks.

The Centre

The Mayor of Rushmoor officially opened the Centre in November 2005. It is located in a pretty, little, converted barn, close to the main Farnborough shopping centre, so parents can do the weekly shopping while the children study. The atmosphere is tranquil and positive, with students sitting at their own computer workstations. There is a wealth of Kip McGrath teaching materials and software to suit students of all ability levels.

What We Do

When children and their parents come for their first visit to the Centre, Jeanette talks to them about the kind of help they would like. She does a brief, informal assessment of the child's reading, spelling, maths etc. She discusses the results with the parents right away. If the parents feel Kip McGrath tuition would help their child, they book a weekly session and Jeanette uses the assessment results to plan an individual programme for that child.

The students work in small groups (maximum 5), at their own pace with lots of encouragement and support from the tutor. The combination of direct teaching, written work and computer activities helps them stay focused and motivated during lessons. Working in small groups means they can share their successes while having the space to develop independent study skills but with the teacher always available.

We welcome:

  • Children falling behind because of illness or family problems.
  • Children who want a boost to move up a set in English or Maths.
  • Children who would like support with exam revision.
